ROCHESTER, NY – Honor Flight sends veterans across the country to Washington, DC to see monuments built in their honor.
But the cost of these trips is getting more and more expensive.
Finn Donaldson was one of dozens of bikers outside M’s 4300 Bar & Grill on Saturday morning. It was the first stop in the poker race to raise funds for Honor Flight Rochester.
It’s a cause Donaldson is passionate about.
“We try to go with every flight coming into the airport and support people who are coming back,” Donaldson said. “Just to support our veterans.”
Heather Henry volunteers for Honor Flight in Rochester. Her friends helped organize the poker run fundraiser for her and the organization.
“My friends are the greatest people in the world,” Henry said. “They understand the Honor Flight is a great organization and know there are so many passionate people in the veteran community.”
The money goes to veterans’ flights and other expenses when they travel to Washington, DC These trips are getting more and more expensive.
“Our supplies, like all other supplies, increase every year,” Henry explained. “Travel is going up, gas prices are going up, so it costs more to send our veterans.”
The bikers headed for four more stages of the poker run fundraiser before finishing at M’s 4300.
Being able to ride with everyone was a favorite part of the event.
