Just one hour after the organizers of Lake Champlain Poker Track Registration opens today at noon, half of the 75 seats available for the fourth annual event in Burlington, Vt., have been taken. Such is the growing popularity of the Aug. 19-20 event on the over 100-mile-long body of water, which stretches well into Canada.
Well on the way to being sold out, the Lake Champlain Poker Run is one of the coolest and hottest speed boating events in the Northeast. Lake Champlain Poker Run 2021 photo by Tim Sharkey copyright Sharkey Images.
“We’ve had a great result so far – we’re about half sold in the first hour,” said Brian Hoar, one of the event’s founders and organizers. “We’re aiming for 75 boats again this year, because we’re kind of capped on numbers with the dock space at Burlington Harbor Marina. It will be very similar to last year’s race, although I think we will include an unofficial fun race on Friday. We have slightly modified the route for Saturday’s race.
Proceeds from the event will go to Camp Ta Kum Ta, an outdoor experience for children affected by cancer and their families. In 2021, the race raised $32,000 for the charity.
“We have great support from Downtown Burlington and the Port of Burlington Marina, and we have group rates on hotels,” Hoar said. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
Potential participants can register by click here. Sponsorship Opportunities are still available. As he has done for two years, Tim Sharkey of Sharkey Images will be the official photographer for the event.
