Progress may not be as fast as players would like, but we online poker has made progress in recent years. Grand opening days international online poker left for american playersbut the industry has gained a foothold with the state-by-state approach.

Online poker in the United States continues to show historic revenues for regulated states. Players can now find legal online poker in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada and Delaware, hopefully with more on the way.

With that in mind, here’s a quick look at four things the US online poker industry is doing well.

USA Online Poker Options

Currently players have three main real money online poker options in the US. These include:

1 – Expanded tournament schedules with buy-ins and events for everyone

American online poker operators continue to increase tournament series each month. The Online circuit series continues to attract great pitches each month at WSOP.com. The chance to win a championship ring seems popular with gamers.

PokerStars is bringing USCOOP to Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Jersey September 9-26 with $4.5 million guaranteed. At PokerStars, the platform also continues to offer major monthly series. The site offers buy-ins for all skill levels and many poker variations.

After years of more generic series, BetMGM/partypoker have also started to bring more creativity to the end 2021 with longer series. It seems to be paying off and the network has seen a resurgence in 2022.

US traders find the sweet spot by hitting all buy-in levels. A shot guarantees through a small buy-in or a small Satellite the price is attractive for more players. All platforms also continue to offer great nightly and weekly events, with satellites.

It’s not gimmicks, it’s a connection with players who aren’t looking to be next Daniel Negreanu Where Phil Ivey. More recreational players simply looking to have fun playing poker after a day’s work. Poker should be fun and American online poker operators offer plenty of it.

2 – Bigger promotions

It’s always nice to get a little more bang for your buck and online poker operators continue to offer some nice extras on this front. PokerStars’ recent offer announcement Platinum Pass for American online players is a great example.

Players on the site have the opportunity to win a $30,000 travel package at the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) in January in the Bahamas.

It’s good value and Stars is offering passes up for grabs in the next American Online Poker Championship (USCOOP). Other opportunities also continue in the coming months. Adding unique trophy events to USCOOP is also a good idea.

Again, these types of efforts add to the fun. WSOP.com continues with a great Player of the Year function that rewards the annual winner:

  • $10,000 cash
  • exclusive championship ring
  • $1,500 Online Tournament Tickets

It’s a great promotion and the expansion of the concept should extend to Michigan and Pennsylvania. Other operators should also take up the idea. WSOP.com also continues with a freeroll in September with a $10,000 Main Event seat up for grabs.

At BetMGM, Take a card The promotion also offers players a daily chance to win tournament tickets. This operator also continues to expand its offerings. The operators are doing well promotionally and the players recognize that.

3 – Stay focused on the community

One thing a lot of players say about the US online poker market is that it may be small, but it’s very tight-knit. Legalized states tend to have a friendly atmosphere where players know each other.

A quick analysis USPoker’s The Winner’s Circle feature shows the loyalty to the game that many players feel in every state. Players are also quick to share their achievements and discuss the scene on social media.

Pennsylvania online regular and poker pro Jeff Steelwagon echoes these thoughts. He recently spoke with USPoker about his own poker life and the camaraderie among players in the Keystone State.

“I can’t wait for online poker to come to more states and have interstate poker,” he said. “But I really like fighting against the group of Pennsylvania players every day and the community feels like we have it here.”

Fostering this sense of community by poker operators only adds to the success of the industry. One aspect of the modern game that adds to that? Diffusion. Whether you are new to Tic or have no interest in watching others play online poker, the fact is that these online poker mini-realities continue to develop the game.

American streaming may still be in its infancy compared to massive hits like Lex Veldhuis and Jaime Staples, but there is a growing group. This can only increase interest in the game and reach young players.

4 – Live Poker Links

Adding some synergy between online gaming and live feel gives operators a chance to create real buzz around their platforms. The BetMGM Poker Championship this summer was a great success.

The company has brought a large group of qualifications online. New Jersey qualifying Benji Folson even finished fifth for $50,000.

“I’ve had such warm and quality interactions with fellow Qualifiers, Aria staff, BetMGM staff and many other players in competition,” he says. “I understand the appeal of playing MTTs live a lot more now, and it’s not just because I fought my way to a fifth-place finish.”

WSOP.com also offered excellent online satellites this summer for live tournaments on Bally’s/Paris. The Tournament of Champions also appeared to be a success at the WSOP. The $1 Million Freeroll awards seats to players who win a bracelet or championship ring, whether live or online.

Could PokerStars also be part of it? The company ran the Visit Moneymaker for Platinum Passes in 2019. On the way to PSPC the events are already run internationally now too. Could another Stars Live series be in the works?

Challenges remain, but momentum is slowly building

There are certainly positives for the US online poker market, but some challenges also remain. The market is still small and merged markets do not move quickly.

Michigan officially joined the interstate pact with Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware in May. However, no platform has yet been approved to share cash with Wolverine State.

Realizing this could be a major boon for the industry. Added other smaller states that have also legalized but not yet launched, such as West Virginia and Connecticutcould also be beneficial for the US market.

As USPoker previously reported, a combined U.S. market of currently legalized states would potentially put the U.S. among the Top 10 in global online poker markets Seeing more states, especially more populated ones like California and New York, could also significantly increase the pool.

This would mean bigger player and prize pools. The growth of sports betting and online casino games shows that Americans are interested in more iGaming. As more and more states legalize these gambling options, the addition of poker seems like an easy addition. Things are certainly not moving quickly, but there are at least some positive signs on the horizon.
