Casino Scene: Good Video Poker Game, Best Game to Play, Hard to Find Game | Entertainment

John G. Brokopp

There is no doubt that video poker is one of the best casino games to play. Payout tables make some games better than others, but overall video poker is one of your strongest gaming options.

Unfortunately, it is not financially practical to dedicate a lot of space to video poker at properties in the area. Reel and video slots are much more profitable, and as long as players continue to flock to them, things won’t change.

Visit any “local” Las Vegas casino and you’ll find a treasure trove of video poker machines. You may have to shop around for the best games, but they’re usually available.

Video poker fans like to gravitate to the Triple Play and Five Play formats available in a variety of game themes. There are acceptable payout tables available in this market, but the machines swing a lure that can quickly gobble up a small bankroll if good cards don’t come.

People also read…

In Quarter Triple Play, for example, if you want to play the maximum number of coins on each deal, it comes down to 15 coins or $3.75. At quarter game five, this equals 25 coins or $6.25. On Quarter Ten Play, you’re talking about 50 coins or $12.50.

If you’re lucky enough to get a “big” hand, you’ll get a good stack. But if you hit a dry spell, your bankroll can evaporate very quickly depending on how fast you choose to play.

I’ve always thought that while multi-hand video poker can increase your winning potential on good hands, it can also magnify your losing potential on bad hands.

If you’re playing 5-coin one-hand video poker and you’re dealt bad hands, you’ve only got $1.25 in play. Just discard all five cards and hope for the best draw. In multi-hand play, you’ve invested a lot more on a bad deal.

A great tip for multi-hand video poker players is to always select the slowest game speed on screen when a casino makes this option available to you (some casinos have this feature blocked, requiring you to play at the fastest pace).

The more hands you play per hour, the more you submit your bankroll to the house advantage. Slow your game down to a comfortable pace and you can’t go wrong.

Also check out these payout tables! Unlike reel and video slots, the house edge built into video poker is there for you to investigate. Don’t play the game blindly, by sitting in front of the first free machine and starting to introduce $20 bills. There’s some really bad video poker around here, and some pretty decent video poker too.
